How it works
Fix the contents
Decide what goes in one box first
Choose the number of each cookie variety in one box. Multiply by your confirmed box count. Six cookies could mean two each of three varieties, or one of six varieties; that choice changes the number of separate recipes, baking sessions and packing steps.
Whole batches
Round each recipe independently
Twenty boxes need 40 cookies of each variety when there are two of each per box. A 10% allowance takes that to 44. If a recipe makes 24, bake two batches: 48 cookies of that variety. The eight remaining cookies include both the allowance and the batch rounding.
Test a box
Cookie count does not tell you the box size
Bake the actual sizes, wrap them as you plan to sell them and pack a trial box. Check depth, protection and movement. This tool plans quantities, not physical dimensions. Different cookies also need their own storage and allergen checks.
Protect the date
Check capacity before opening preorders
A count you can bake is not always a count you can decorate and pack in time. The Christmas bakery preorder guide walks through a fixed menu, capacity and collection slots. Keep the offered quantity inside your tested limit.
Price the order
The box and ribbon need paying for too
Use the decorated cookie pricing calculator for your time and costs. Include the share of box, tissue, labels and ribbon in packaging. The royal icing calculator helps plan an iced-cookie batch.
FAQ
Common questions
How many cookies do I need for 20 gift boxes?
At six cookies per box, pack 120 cookies. If each box has two cookies from each of three varieties and recipes make 24 of each, a 10% allowance means two batches per variety: 144 cookies baked, 120 packed and 24 spare.
How many types of cookies should I put in a gift box?
There is no required number. Choose a manageable menu and trial-pack it. Three varieties with two of each makes a six-cookie box. More varieties add separate recipes and packing steps; this planner supports up to eight.
Are the spare cookies extra on top of the breakage allowance?
The spare count already includes the allowance and whole-batch leftovers. It is the number baked minus the number packed. Do not add the allowance again.
Can I use this for Christmas cookie boxes?
Yes. Enter the confirmed box orders, the contents of one box and your tested recipe yields. The same calculation works year-round for gifts, events and treat boxes. It does not set a shelf life or check allergens.
